第三屆HKBDFI盃
3rd HKBDFI Cup in Hong Kong

Last year I was bold enough to move this new competition to Bangkok. Though the response was not bad, it is still my responsibility to uphold the name of Hong Kong BDFI Cup! As Hong Kong Ballroom Dancers International (HKBDI) was born on 14th February under the influence of BDFI, I try to organize the HKBDFI Cup near it’s birthday, so 3rd HKBDFI Cup was held on the Sunday - 16th February 2014.

The venue - TST Kaifong Welfare Association Hall, was not commonly used for DanceSport competitions in HK, despite the fact that it is spacious with good shoe connection. 106 Solo dancers and 101 couples from Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, USA, Russia, China & HK took up the number tags. Most of them danced to their best due to the well-organized schedule & warm atmosphere. 60 events were enlisted in the Entry Form with 55 of them put in force - the record number of events from my 22 years of organizing competitions in HK or elsewhere.

The four major events were mostly dominated by foreign couples as follows :

Open Amateur Latin Open Amateur Standard Open Professional Latin Open Professional Standard
1st Alexander Andreichev & Kristina Nikiforova (Russia) Diego Arias & Ekaterina Ermolina (Russia) Vander HinLon & Zhao ShanShan Nikita Novikov & Dovile Sutaite (USA)
2nd Cedric Chan & Jennifer Tin Roberto Masanque & Joey Wong Nicholas Tse & Mabel Wan Mac & Vesta Ko
3rd Veroy Ng & Lo Weng Che (Malaysia) Wang Lei & Chrissie Ng (China)   Nukrop Charoensaard & Anyarin Tantiakkarasak (Japan)
4th Anson Au & Christie Chan Raymond Tam & Teresa Siu   Huang Biao & Doris Chan
5th Tye Jian Jin & Cindy Law (Malaysia) Wong Cheung Chak & Liu Suet Fun   Jacky Ma & Ling Chin
6th Choi Ting Fung & Choi Tsz Yan Wong Wai Lap & Chow Suk Ping   Liu Yi Ho & Nina Lee (China)

Adjudicators found it not difficult to find the winners from three of these four events, only Open Amateur Latin’s 1st & 2nd couples were really close that the honour would easily be reversed in their next encounter!

2013 HKBDI All Year Round Champions TROPHIES & PRICE MONEY of different categories were presented in the evening dinner party before the two Open Amateur finals. The Open Amateur & Open Professional All Year Round Champions were offered two returned AIR TICKETS to compete overseas under HKBDI Flag. The 4th HKBDFI Cup is fixed on 15th February 15 at Hotel Regal Riverside, a smaller but more elegant venue!
